muffs for only $40

Re: muffs for only $40

Your link it coming up empty but... if they're the $39.95 Mike's Muffs, I've got one for my Azden SGM-1X. It seems to work OK though I don't have anything to compare it to. Note: with the Mike Muff, the mic (actually the muff) will show at full wide zoom using the standard on-camera mount whereas without the muff it won't.

Re: muffs for only $40

peter, if you type muff-1, it will get you to the link. let me know if it's the same muff you have. thanks...

Re: muffs for only $40

Hi Boo, that is the Mike Muff-1A. I typed "Muff" and it worked. If it works as well as they claim, that is a great price. :D

Re: muffs for only $40

In my experience, some muffs are better than others :-) I tried a Rycote Softie, but wasn't happy with it and switched to Lightwave Equalizer--which is excellent, even in high winds. A design that has a rigid inner cage creates a dead air space around the mic and makes it very wind-resistant. If the Mike's Muff is just a slip-on furry sock, it won't be as effective as the Equalizer. I've never seen the Mike's Muff, but you may want to ask about the design. I can completely vouch for the Equalizer as I've used it in some wicked winds and picked up no wind noise.

Re: muffs for only $40

Barry, have you tried the Lightwave MS-106 Miniscreen?  That is an incredible device for the money.  I have one myself.  It is as effective as a blimp that costs 2x more.  I tested it in high wind for a DVXuser, Fred Plowman, and it worked so well I bought one myself.  ;D

Re: muffs for only $40

Lightwave Mini windscreen....Kinda nice.. It works as intended.. $140??? its just some plastic and fabric.. Although carefully engineered.. $140$ ????.. wow our toys are expensive. lol
I seen the advertising of it and assumed it was wire mesh. When thinking about it though the plastic is ultra ultra light and seems durable. Makes sense.  I dont have nothing to compare it too.. Rush does though and he endorses it
PS. Rush is a good guy ;D

Re: muffs for only $40

;D

That's funny Fred, until I tested that little guy for you, I had never even heard of it... I was so doubtful, but now I recommend it ahead of the Softie for the same money.  It creates a nice vaccum, and is a lot lighter in weight.  I was so happy to have accomodated you, and it alerted me to great new toy.

Expensive nonetheless...   :(

But still cheaper than this: http://www.rycote.com/products/windshield/default.htm

That'll blow a hole in your wallet.

Re: muffs for only $40

Rush.. i am interested in some lighting.. Im a few months out.. Can you check pricing for Videssence flourescent lighting product?? Know anything about it?? Im a month or two out.. but need to prepare pricing for my goal ;) thanks

Re: muffs for only $40

Yeah, same material on the blimp... 5 easy bills...

I am not a dealer for those guys, unfortunately. Sorry. I got Arri, Kino, Lowel, NRG, and Photoflex. Can you send me their site link?

Re: muffs for only $40

Rush--I haven't tried the Miniscreen, but I'll take your word that it rocks. I have never heard a bad word about Lightwave products--they all seem best of class. I did consider the Miniscreen, but I thought you probably had to buy the Mini Windmaster (furry) as well which brings the price up to over $200. So, can you use the Miniscreen outside in 20-25 mph winds without a furry?

Re: muffs for only $40

I bought one of those mic muffs a few years back for $30 and it worked pretty well, but it isnt as transparent as the lightwave products.

Sorry, Barry, I haven't tested it in that high of a wind... I will order the windmaster, and try and do that when we get our new shipment of Rycote. I guess I can try the car method, driving at 25mph and holding the mic out the window. I'll do it both ways too, with and without the windmaster.

Re: muffs for only $40

I mean I will have someone else drive while I do that... ;)

( :)I love my CHP's and Burbank PD, and would never do that :))
