MTV style editing

They said the same thing in the 80's , if you can date something, its usually not a good thing.

I can date the movies that are made now adays, and thats bothersome.

I think it's more of a technology thing. As time goes on technology for filmmaking gets better and more distinct from those before it. The same with film stock and the such. I think it plays a role.

Watch Raiders of the Lost Ark. It looks like a film that could have been done today.
i'm going to bookmark this thread. because next year, we'll know for sure.

Datable examples: (and i dont mean by filmstock or whatever, i mean sign of the times, hair, clothes, etc..pop culture notables...etc.)

Example: 1982 specifically
Non Datable greatness: The Thing , Raiders of the Lost Ark, Blade Runner, Diner
Datable : TRON, Rocky 3, Porky's

Example: 1993
Non: Groundhog Day, Dead Alive (low budget but not datable), Bronx Tale, True Romance

Datable: TMNT 3, Last Action Hero, Demolition Man, Free Willy

2004:
Non: Passion of the christ, eternal sunshine, bourne supremecy, The Aviator

Datable: You got Served, starksy and hutch, Walking Tall, Soul Plane, Friday Night Lights, blade.

In closing, a movie can take place in the present time it was shot in and be fine, but when it embodies what the date of its shooting is, its dated. And thats what the MTV generation creates. The texas chainsaw massacre remakes will be so datable, look at every horror movie recently released, in the last few years and the upcoming ones. All the same style save for a few standouts. VERY few, well 10 years from now maybe 20 we can just look and say "ZOMG, those are so from the 2000's! total teh suckage!" And the other ones are great.
