MTP Device OK?

Thought I'd check with the experts here. Just plugged in a new USB hard drive, and something called "MTP Device" shows up in Windows Explorer. A cursory Google says it is a new Microsift device, which on the surface appears benign.

But .. any attempts to access it say I do not have permission!!. So, I am naturally leery of anything that automatically installs itself and says I do not have "permissions!"

What's going on here (beside Bill Gates and his piece of crap OS again)?

Looks like MTP Device is not a "real" device, it's just a protocol for transferring media files hither and thither. There's nothing to access, as such.

You do mean this has shown up in addition to the drive, right?

make sure you have the correct drivers, It should show up as "Mass Storage Device" which should in theory just appear as another drive on your "My Computer" folder.

If some CD/driver was supplied, then goto hardware manager and uninstall the device from the list, then install the driver first THEN plug in the device and let windows recognise it.
