Mt. Everest

A friend of mine named Jim Curtin is currently in the process of attempting to climb everest. And he's posting video blogs all along the way. If anyone is interested, the site is http://www.mounteverest2008.com

We did the profile video on the front page (although I think they will be changing that video with the daily videos at some point).

One interesting thing about Jim's climb is that he's doing it right after the olympic torch is supposed to go up there. So just getting to Nepal and getting the required permits has been an anxiety-ridden experience, as China is trying to limit any non-China communication from the mountain (for reasons obvious to anyone who has been paying attention to the news lately).

Jim will have a mobile editing suite at base camp all operating off expedition batteries powered by solar panels. He's shooting video with a Sony CX7 and uploading from the mountain via BGAN. Pretty serious setup.

Anyhow, check it out if you would like. Right now he's at 14,000 feet and hiking towards base camp, where he is scheduled to arrive in about a week.

Kudos to your friend...
I watched the series "Everest: Beyond the Limit" on Discovery and they did a great job of capturing just what an achievement it is to summit. It is always a gamble with one's life to attempt.
Hmmm...wonder just how difficult it is to operate a video camera a 27,000 feet in freezing temps on the side of a mountain with little oxygen...and, keep yourself alive.!

I'll stick to the 10,000 feet and below elevations for production work, thank you very much!
