MQ vs PQ Tapes

I was wondering your all opinions about buying MQ vs PQ tapes? Is there a big difference in quality? I have been using the 83PQ's for three years with my XL1S and GL2 but have recently bought the 100b and wondering if I should buy the MQ's?

This topic has been covered multiple times. If you search for tapes it will bring up threads on tapes and it's included there

Yes.

Reportedly more metal particles. Edges cut with sharper razor (for less dropouts, especially towards the ends of the tape). Higher quality should theoretically be less of a chance of it dumping oxide and clogging the heads.

I'd go MQ.

Thanks CineAlta. You know the biggest thing is that I really want to do whatever I can to take care of my camera. Do you ever use the 83MQ?

noooooo......never use the 83 minute tapes in the DVX. They are thinner, more prone to dropouts, and I believe it even says in the manual not to use them..,...

Thanks guys. I just checked the manual and it says use 63 PQ or 63 MQ. It never really said anything about the 83's.

I don't care what these other guys say... I've used the 83 MQ's for
two years and have even used them multiple times re-recording over them and I have not once had a drop out with them.

Having said that I did try the 83 PQ's (once) and did have drops on the last five minuets of every tape.

I think the 83 MQ are just great... and I don't have to worry about having someone run long and then fumbling for another tape.
