Hey I was just wondering if it is alright to re-record over old footage on a DVM63MQ tape? Any consequences? Or should you always start with a brand new one? Thanks a lot.

Re: MQ tapes

It's better to use new ones, obviously. However, since those tapes are officially not imported in France, I have to get them in the U.S., and in my early DVX days (before my supply chain was well established ;D), I ran short and had to re-use one a couple of times. No problems, no drops, as good as new.

But better safe than sorry, and those tapes are not expensive.

Re: MQ tapes

i wouldnt do it with anything critical shooting, but I have reused a tape 2x (3 times total recording) with no dropouts.

Re: MQ tapes

Just reinforcing what has already been said. :)
Only reuse a tape if you absolutly have to and if your shooting something you absolutly have to get right first time, make sure you don't have to reuse a tape.

Re: MQ tapes

I second that. I used to re-use Beta tapes as well, but only for intra-office stuff, jokes, family stuff, same for DV MQ tapes... Wouldn't shoot anything important on it.
