MPIC - Can Somebody Explain To Me How This Thing Works?

It's so tiny; how could it possibly do the job at hand? Why is the Cinemek/G35 so much bigger?

How much is the MPIC? The website is cryptic.

All I can say is Redrock's 4 month wait does not exude confidence.

Thoughts anyone?

--edit: Dan Diaconu deserves an award for Excellence in Industrial Design, assuming the product functions well.

He'd sell a bundle of 'em for under a Grand. He could become the market leader... Sell them in B&H catalog, etc. For $8,000, he'll remain unheard of. People don't get excited about stuff they can't afford. People get excited about awesome products for low prices... His product doesn't fit into any market segment, really. Would a Mini35 owner pay the same price for something that doesn't flip the image. NO!

Sure, and BMW would sell a bunch of cars for 10,000 also. I'm not saying it's not expensive, but we have no idea what his hard costs are, or his R&D costs considering he's been working on this for the past year, or the amount of time it takes to hand build each one of these units.

People will pay what it's worth. He's not being competitive enough.

For $8,000 I'll buy a Mini35.. Actually, for a lot less than that. 300 Series Mini's have been going for $5-6K on eBay.

Not to mention I can rent a Mini35 for $300/Day in nearly every major U.S. city

One was sold for $1,5k a few weeks ago, Brian. But 300 series doesn't work with DVX :(

And, Luis, Dan posted what his costs making these adapters are... that was when he was trying to justify the price of $2k. I believe it was something like 900 bucks in parts + his time. So, I really see no reason for upping the price... let alone upping it THAT much.

I'm just saying that under $1000 is an unrealistic expectation for that quality.

I don't think so. Not at all. Some people are unsuccessful because they are bad businessmen. I sincerely hope Mr. Diaconu is not one of them. I wish him all the success in the world, but sometimes that means waking up to market realities instead of whining about development costs. His product looks awesome. All the best.

Nothing against Dan -- both the MPIC and his follow focus look awesome -- but I'm hard pressed to find something better than the Redrock M2 for the price or quite a bit more. Yes, it took awhile to get mine, but it was worth it. Having the benefit of living in Dallas (where the adapters are made), I got to see a few bits and pieces as they were engineering and gearing up for production. It's a nice piece, especially with the rails. I've only managed test footage so far (why do I buy cool stuff around Christmas when I have no time use it?), but I'm very pleased with the results. Maybe Dan's looks even better. I have no idea.

I sound like a groupie, don't I?
