mpeg4 vs mpeg 2 and internet work

I tried to find my answers through a search of the site, but didn't find what I was looking for. If I missed it, please accept my apologies.
I am attempting to host my films on my website and the issue I have run into is file size/ download time/ image quality. I am so new to all of this web stuff I can't even seem to get a banner uploaded on this site to promote my DramaFest Project. Anyway, I am currently rendering a file to 15fps to see how it looks and how quick it downloads. I'm not even certain if I am in the right forum, is this a file format issue, a website issue, or both? Help me David Jimerson, you're my only hope.

WM9 is a variation of H.264.

The setting I like the best are 83% quality, 320x240 (sqaure pixel), 3 seconds per keyframe. This gives you almost two minutes per megabyte, depending on how much motion you have. Then, if it's played at 200% size, it still looks reasonably good.

Also, look at your audio settings. Is stereo necessary? What's the lowest bitrate you find acceptable?

Thanks for that tip David on wmv9. What about for sound. What kind of sound quality are you outputting? I know it is probably different as far as setting up the output as I am using EDIUS.

Thanks,
Jason

Another reason to go with.wmv for the web. Thought I'd get fancy and use Flash for my website demo page. Last week while in a meeting with a client I confidenlty brought up my website to show to the folks in the boardroom and,---oops,---only the audio played. Seems Flash, for all it's attributes, doesn't play on all machines.
That's a decided disadvantage when your website is a major marketing tool.

There are a lot of people that block Flash - they consider it an avenue for viruses. I personally hate going to a website with things flashing and strolling unless it is exceptionally well done. I was also going to mention that you will probably find more compatible with wmp9. In my opinion, upgrades to Window Media players seem easier than Quicktime. That means folks will tend to upgrade their Media player faster to stay current with the times. Again, these are only my opinions as a user of the internet.
