I have an avi that was edited in premiere pro 1.5 and ultimately output in after effects 6.5 pro. I used procoder 2.0 to encode the avi to an mpeg2 and the resulting mpeg is much darker than my avi. I am viewing both the avi and the mpeg on my computer screen at the same time, and the mpeg is much darker. I burned the video to a dvd and the resulting video is much darker than my calibrated broadcast monitor I used to color grade the film. I've tried the dvd on approximately 6 different tvs and they all exhibit the same characteristic darkness and oversaturation that is not actually present in the final avi file before compression. Where in the workflow is this coming from and why is simple compression effecting the color and brightness of my image so drastically.
