Mpeg 4

Gabe dude--both Vegas 5 andd 6 will render to MPEG-4. Just do:

Render As: Quicktime 6

Click on Custom, then Video tab

In the Video Format pulldown, select MPEG-4

DUH, totally forgot about that through the QT option!

Barry, I know it won't hold a candle to the new h.264 codec, but how does it compare to Sorenson 3, which is the default?

Or render as AVI using MPEG-4 as the compressor. Can playback through any computer with MPEG-4 (almost all). You can add the XVID or DIVX codecs for better control and results.

Personally, I use FFDSHOW, which gives a gazillion billion compressors, and complete control over all aspects. Quality is astounding, and filesize is small -- but still plays through any mpeg-4 player, and even on most DVD players these days.

Or, download Vegas 6.0c and use the "Sony AVC/AAC (*.mp4)" option. It uses H.264.

If you installed H.264 with Quicktime Pro, too, you'll find the option in the Quicktime render options. (Any version of Vegas.)

Norm--Me no like MPEG-4! :)

Gabe--Stonehenge II was cool, but exhausting. 104 actors over 7 hours. I'm working on the DVD now. I'll shoot you a copy if you like.

Thanks, Barry. I would love to get a copy of that.

I saw your post in Jobs -- I would have pitched in, but I was on the Mall that day shooting the peace rally for Arlington Independent Media.
