forgive me if this was brought up before...

but how do i get mpeg 2 output for fcp 5?
or can I use mpeg 4 for DVD as well?

thanks

mpeg 2 for dvds.

go to file, export, using quicktime conversion, and select mpeg2

then clic on option to set up your export .

hmm.. the problem is that i dont see the option for mpeg-2. it's like it's missing or something... help?

Export to QuickTime using Current Settings, then open in Compressor and use one of the MPEG-2 presets.

is there a qualitative difference between what you just described vs just going direct to compressor from within your fcp project? if so, i'd like to know about it. thanks.

another question is, is it faster to compress to MPEG-2 using the exported out to current settings?

I don't see the need to go to quicktime first if you can go directly into compressor. It works well for me.

You can go directly into Compressor and there is actually a slight increase in quality because you're sending the original media from the timeline rather than a recompiled version. I like to do it so that I'll have a full resolution DV version in addition to the MPEG-2 that goes on the DVD so it's more a housekeeping issue for me. The other workflow issue to keep in mind is that it will tie up FCP a lot longer to go directly to Compressor.
