I am trying ot compress a 1 hour and 55 minute Comedy show to under the 4.5 Gigs neccesary, to get it to fit on a DVD. I used the "good" setting in the render window, and kept the quality at 30. It came out to 5.05 gigs. so i rerendered with the quality setting at 15, and it came out exactly the same 5.05 gigs. Should i try rendering at Preview??? how exactly do you fine tune the quality of the rendered files to adjustthe size??? i cant seem to figure it out. Will using the preview setting greatly reduce quality?

(its a 24p native project, redering tu 24P Mpeg dvd architect template.)

Actually, your total assets need to be under 4.3 Gigs. It's the bitrate settings that will most effect the rendered file size.

oh is it 4.3? err my bad. i gotta find the bitratesettings now. I know usually its 8mbps can you make it like 7 or 6.5

Save yourself a whole bunch of trouble.
Compress it at whatever high quality setting you want.
Make a DVD folder out of the movie and run it through DVD2One to make it fit perfectly on a DVD-5.
You'll be amazed at the quality.

Sorry, but I gotta dissagree with that one. Recompressing mpeg2 video using another program is not going to make your footage look any better. If you want to render it to properly fit on a DVD, check out a little freeware app called (bit rate calculator) do a google search. You basically input how long the video is, what audio compressor your using and it will tell you at what bitrate to encode your vidoe. Using a secondary app to reencode will only reduce image quality.

Or, you could always just output the video as regular DV 24P .avi's, and then let DVD Architect recompress the footage to MPEG2. It can automatically calculate how much space it'll need and use the right compression ratio to make it all fit.

At least, I think it does...

It does, but he is right you can use the bitrate calc to get it right the first time. Just saves render time.

DAmn, i used the AVI=> Arcitect method. IT looks AMAZING. IT hardly looks compressed at all. But one thing, theres a DVDarchitect patch available from sony.com , It enables you to use 24P menus and intro Media. otherwise it keeps failing when you try to create the DVD. that was frustrating till i figured out there was patch after 2 days..... lol
