MP4 video files

I recently just got a copy of After Effects CS4 for my Macbook Pro and i have run into a problem. As of right now the only HD i am shooting is with my GoPro and the file format is MP4. I cant seem to understand why after effects cant use the video file. I can import the file normally, but i get nothing with it. Blank. Can AE not read MP4?

You may have to convert the clips with another codec or to another format in your NLE, and than send them to AE. Just output them as an uncompressed RGB or YUV and you won't lose any quality going back and forth to AE. That is what I do...

The video files that come from the GoPro camera don't exactly comply with the specifications for the codecs that they use. We made some changes in After Effects CS5 and Premiere Pro CS5 to accommodate these files.

I was working the "Ask the Expert" station at the Adobe booth at NAB this year, and several people came to me with questions about GoPro. I asked them to bring me actual media from these cameras so that we could test them in CS5 on the spot. In all cases, the CS5 applications read and used these files just fine.

the 72060P were the only files that didnt work with either after effects CS4 or final cut pro 7.0. i ran them through MPEGStreamclip and they came out to .mov were fine. I just stick with shooting 72030P or 108030P and both of those import and work just fine in both applications. Just took a little guess and check
