MP4 Render issues

I'm editing a sequence compiled of various clips I've received in mp4. They import fine into FCP but I have to render the timeline just about every time I make an adjustment. I know mp4 is an export codec, does anyone know if I'm able to convert it to something that FCP can work with a bit easier?

Yeah, I use ProRes LT for most of my work. FCP can handle it very well (no rendering)... I would use ProRes HQ if I wanted the best quality.

Can you convert it from mp4 to Pro ResHQ using MPEG Streamclip? Unfortunately mp4 is the codec that I've received the files in...thanks for the response.

Yes you can however I would strongly recommend you don't. ProRes HQ won't improve overall quality and it will eat up disk space like no joke. Use normal ProRes for your mp4s. HQ is best used on material like Alexxa or RED footage.
