I received native files from a source that is unkown and I'm unable to open the MP4 file in Quicktime Pro or import into Final Cut Pro. (The files will play in VLC on a Mac.) Any suggestions as to what codec that I may need? I have imported the MP4 files into CS4 Premiere without any issues but don't won't to work on the PC side, I want to use Final Cut on the Mac. They were shot in Europe and sent to me on a hard drive.

Included with each MP4 file is an accompanying SMI, PPN, XML and BIM. Should those help?

Thanks!

Don't know the answer, but you could always import them into CS4 and then export them out to quicktime movies that FCP could work with. Not an ideal workflow but at least it'd get you started.

Get MPEG STREAMCLIP (square5.com)...it's free. Use that to convert the files to DV/NTSC. Or if they are HD, then to ProRes.
