Hello everyone,

I'm trying to get some footage off the internet , downloaded them as Mp4's. I converted them to an .avi file and they should show up in premiere cs3 but when I import them it recognizes them as an audio file. Is there something I am missing?

I would greatly appreciate any advice, my guess would be a plugin is missing somewhere. That always seems to be the problem lol.

An .avi is just a wrapper an can be any codec. Don't know Ffdshow or what it encodes to, but it could be something Premiere doesn't read. Maybe Divx or Xvid.

It may be an x vid that was one of the options when converting it, I will give that a try when I get home, perhaps that will be an easy fix....lol

I meant, if it's Divx or Xvid, Premiere may not be able to read it. Getting audio only would be a typical symptom.

FFdshow is not a good idea. It ruins you OS.
Never install a codec pack Premiere has everyting on board unless you are absolute sure you need a particular codec like mjepg.
Divx and Xvid wont edit on Premiere.

That's probably not legal. Stick to using footage you shot yourself and have the legal right to edit. Things will probably work better that way.

I have the rights to the footage , it is my actors band that had past shows on youtube that I am using for some footage. I was wondering what the best codec for premiere is?
