Hey everyone,
i need some advice!

first, about myself,
i am heading into my 3rd year of university at the university of lethbridge, (about 2 hours south of calgary..) i am in the new Media program, and will someday be a director for feature films.:D
I have made a few shorts and done a couple commercials for contests already and like to think i am quite knowledgable about film production.

now for the question...
i need a job for the summer, and would like to work in the industry to gain experince and see how bigger productions work. i have applied to some production companies in calgary but there just arent as many productions as say, in vancouver.

So, i was thinking of moving to vancouver for a few months and working on some productions there, where there are plenty more. also, a fellow classmate of mine lives there and says he would be able to get me work.

So, does anyone here live in or around vancouver and have maybe a place for me to stay?:D or a job they could give me?!:D or, just general advice about vancouver, and my plan?

Thanks!

not to pee on your parade but I know a LOT of people here in Vancouver that are unable to get work in site of excellent credentials.

the problem is that we have tons of technical schools that teach TV/Film production and not enough jobs to go around. most people I know are desparate for ANY job and end up doing stuff for free or minute pay.

that said, if your buddy says he can get you a job that's great for you. just remember that the grass isn't greener on the other side. everyone I talk to here says you should go to Toronto if you want a job in TV or film :o)

hmm, well, i was going to send out my resume and a cover letter to the productions i can find in the bc film commission site before i leave, addressed to the locations department..
anyone know of some cheap places to stay around vancouver? or what area of vancouver would be the best to live in? i assume it wouldnt matter too much since the productions would be all over the place anyways...

I dunno if there are any "cheap" places to live but I'm sure you can find some good deals for the summer. If you don't have a car I strongly suggest you pick a place within walking distance of the SkyTrain. If not you'll be screwed when it comes to transportation. Take a look at something in or around Metrotown, Broadway, downtown, Kitsilano or close to the pier on the North Shore.
