So I'm moving to NYC, gulp, Next FRIDAY! yikes better start packing.
Anyway ... should I change my company name?
fqrquicklogo2.gif

just doesn't seem right anymore - seems wierd to be Brooklyn based and called that even if that's where "the company" i.e. the brand for the films, was born.

I've only done a couple of shorts and have no clients or anything like that.

This has always been my second choice for a company name:

OK I just through that logo together obv. but you get the idea ... it's based on the Coppola quote:
"To me the great hope is that now these little video recorders are around and people who normally wouldn't make movies are going to be making them. And suddenly, one day some little fat girl in Ohio is going to be the new Mozart and make a beautiful film with her father's camcorder and for once, the so-called professionalism about movies will be destroyed, forever, and it will really become an art form."

So
A) should I change my company name regardless of the alternative (would be a good time to do it - we ain't nobody)?

B) what do you think about LFG productions?

thanks all

Jack

How about just Quartier Features (or words to that effect). Makes it less NO-specific, but still keeps its roots. And you can do a lot with a Q.

:) Little Fat Girl is cute. But I doubt you'd get the reactions you'd want. (I, myself, have a Little Girl Sunday Productions buried somewhere under my MPD umbrella.)(Hmmmm....that might be another...MPD, Inc. )

Movin' on up....to the east side? In case you're interested, we're TRYING to set up a NYC DVXUser group. When you're settled, let us know if you'd like to be part of it. We'd love to have you. Good luck with the move.

I don't know about LFG. I agree it might not be taken the way you think. I do like Quarter Features. Could mean a lotta different things and it's catchy.

I don't really like the LFG. Seems too much like a joke. Unless of course that's what you're going for.

Well Jack-

Judging by the amount of different responses you are getting, and will get, its a good thing. You don't have to lose sleep over whether or not your production name will please everybody, because it won't. As long as it clicks for you. However, I do like Quarter Features. I mean, what is a production company name anyway?

TriStar, Mirimax etc. What do THEY mean? Who knows? Though, I have always liked the artistic simplicity of Jodi Foster's production company name; Egg Pictures. I mean, we all know how fragile putting together a creative piece can be. It seems to be one of the few production company names that gets it right on the money.

But lets be honest here, you can name your production company, "I F*cking Hate Audiences Productions" and if you told a good story, no one would care about your company name.

Having said all that, I like French Quarter Features. I like the logo. And, who cares if its location specific? So is Tribeca. It doesn't matter. It's your first. It's yours. And its good. I say keep it.

But in the end, go with your gut.

Rick
PS I live in NY. We'll have to meet up some time. We DVXers gotta stick together...

Hey thanks for comments everyone.

You guys are helping me decide and based on your thoughts I think I'm leaning towards LFG though I hate losing French Quarter Features for sentmental reasons (Quarter Productions is apealing).

But leaning towards LFG because as Rick said -- if you make good films it doesn't matter so much and therefore it comes down to which is more memorable.

Quarter Features I think is more easily forgotton than LFG, and I don't actually expect many people to draw the Coppola connection. I do think that you don't think twice about Quarter Features and most people would say "why the hell did he call it Little Fat Girl productions?" and therefore remember it well -- so that with the fact that it does mean something to me that I can explain on Conan Obrien oneday :cheesy: is sort of tipping the scales that way.

Any other thoughts are appreciated though -- its kinda like gettin a tattoo - so I want to think it out well.

You can change it to "Can you spare a quarter features"

LOL... That's one way of saying, "Welcome to New York."

I say keep French Quarter Features, and just modify the tagline to delete "New Orleans."

Why: (A) It's your well established brand.
(B) Everyone loves the French Quarter.
(C) It's memorable.
(D) It creates the thought that the films will be diverse, edgy, gritty, clever, different -- and from what I've seen, that describes your work.

I don't think FQF necessarily implies that the work comes out of the French Quarter itself but rather that it springs from a French Quarter sensibility. And to me, that's a good thing.

I'm kind of surprised that no one else mentioned this:

LFG (Little Fat Girl) looks an awful lot like LGF (Lion's Gate Films).

Who cares about the name?

I'm just psyched you're bringing your talent up to the northeast. :)

I would love to work with you sometime.

Chris

p.s. I do like the name "Little Fat Girl"

that's the idea!

Its a parody too: Giant Film Company ... teeny weeny film company

Thanks for the thoughts MsManhattan :)

Kimko -- there are really good actors here in new orleans. Oddly enough we are short on male and female engenues (sp?) ... that can act. But I'd put our 10-20 hardcore character actors up against the thousands in any other city.

With just 10-20 around they work all the time and you know each others work very well.

The guy in a upcoming short of mine you are all more than likely about to see has shared the screen with John Travolta in a pretty big role (love song for bobby long - limited release - mediocre filme - great performances), in addition to tons of small parts in flicks, but he drove back from North Carolina with two family members in the hospital to work on my little movie for free for 5 days. That's what I'm gonna miss about here. :(

hey he and I are actuall both gonna BE in this Tony Scott / Denzel Washington movie that's shooting here - I'll probably have to fly back for my day or two of shooting :)

Is that legal ? I would make sure you check with lawyer before commiting yourself , but just make sure you pick a concept that you like

thanks for the advice

they can't copyright those three letters in any order just because they are sans seriff
LGF_logo.jpg

and none of the other fonts match, plus parody is protected, AND they would have to make a convicing arguments that I intended to capatalize off their logo -- meaning make you accidentally think you were watching a LGF film.
