moving project to external hardrive

QUESTION:

Just got a new MAXTOR 300GB external hardrive because the FCP project I'm working on has maxed out my internal hardrive. I'm litterally down to 2GB left on the internal.

I've formatted the external drive, etc... Seems to be quick and ready to rock.

How do I move the entire FCP project over to the external drive and clear out my internal?

This whole thing makes me nervous as hell. But I'm at a stand still until it's done.

make a folder containing your project file, all of your scratch folders, and any other media in the project (still, audio, etc.) drag it to the fw drive. when you go from one drive to another, you're just copying the files, not removing them from the original directory. so after it's all moved, launch your project from the proj file on the fw drive. your media will have gone offline, so you'll need to re-connect it to the scratch folders in the new location. once everything's cool, trash the old stuff. better yet, just trash the old capture scratch. that's the big part. if you have your tapes and there are no timecode breaks, you can always re-capture if you need to.

if you are near the end of the project and only want to copy media that's in the timeline (as opposed to the stuff you captured but didn't use,) then use the media manager.
