Moving multiple motion track keys

Hey All,

I’m working on a project where I have 40+ tracks using motion tracking. This video simulates card playing, with each card on its own track so I can move them around the table. It’s working great, but now I need to make some adjustments to the timing.

So the question is – is there an easy way to move motion keys across multiple tracks? Say for instance I’d like to slide everything by 30 frames – how can I do that? I’ve been doing it for each track independently, but that’s very tedious. I tried “insert/time” and it doesn’t move the keys, and sliding highlighted tracks seems to have the same result for me. Is there a way to move/slide/insert time on multiple tracks and move the keys all at the same time?

Version 6.0d I have made use of sliding tracks using event grouping which moves the keys, and that helps, but in cases where I need to move ONLY the keys, I havn't yet found a way to do that across multiple tracks.

Not sure if this could work in your situation but perhaps you could create a parent track to control all the current tracks, and make a parent motion adjustment there?

There's a little box in the toolbar -- a lock with connected dots -- which will lock keyframes and envelope nodes to events.

Also, if you press "D" multiple times, your cursor changes, and you'll get to a cursor shaped like connected dots. You select a region where the keyframes are, and you should be able to slide them all together.

Hi David, that seems to be working (Pressing D and then selecting a region), except that it's still only moving one track of keys at a time. That makes keeping the relationships of all the keys across all the tracks rather difficult and tedious. Since I have these keys spread through all 40+ tracks, what I'm looking for is a way to move a region of keys on ALL the tracks at the same time.

im not sure if i understand what you're saying, but i think if i do understand you just shift+click all of them and move them across

The problem is that I do not want to move the clips, just the keys. I can move multiple keys in a single track, and I can move multiple clips AND keys in multiple tracks, but I want to move multiple keys across multiple tracks without moving the clips.

I don’t think it is possible to do this at the same time and unfortunately Trackmotion keyframes are not scriptable.

Try this workaround :
-add a Motion keyframe on each track and at same timecode (those keyframes will be deleted after).
-select “envelope edit tool” and make a time selection to enlight all keyframe to be moved.
-for each track, align the first keyframe to new position (all selected keyframes should move).
-delete keyframes added previously.

I realize that what I am doing is probably a pretty unique situation. I’ve been asked to simulate a card game. I’ve done that now, and all the cards move around the screen, flip, spin, etc… It’s really cool. But now I have the narration that has been written and recorded and the timing is of course very different. I really don’t have many “clips,” mostly I have each card on a track using the motion tracking to move them around. There are a few tracks with “clips” that I use to only manage some layering issues.

So to match the narration, I need to go to an event and move all the motion keys on ALL the tracks appropriate to that event to start with the narration. Then I need to move forward in time to the next significant event that requires the motion track to hit with the narration and move all of those. I hope this is making sense…

Anyway, I’m doing this right now by hand on a per track basis…but it’s slow and tedious as I have to keep lining up each individual track move with the other 40+ tracks for each move. I hope this explanation makes what I’m attempting to do a little more clear. I’d love to find a better solution for this, and your help is greatly appreciated J

What you probably need to do is make sure you have your keyframes locked, then use ripple edits while you insert time at the appropriate places.

Or, you can open a new project, bring your project as you have it now in as a nested project (just drop the VEG file onto the timeline), then make cuts in the nested project.
