Moving From Graphic Design to Video

Hi there everyone here at DVXUSER, I am a senior graphic designer based in the UAE and just moved to video-making. My official position in my company is a Film Supervisor, but I think Audio-Visual Production Lead would be more appropriate for my title. It's over two years since I've been very serious about taking 2D design to a new level. I don't want to be a graphic designer for the rest of my life, I was thinking moving from just a graphic designer would give me a brighter future. I started making graphic animation and learning how to use the camera for video-making for the last two years. I find it really interesting and at the same time very addictive. I found the learning curve to be very challenging and enjoyable at the same time.

Started with Canon 700d and upgraded to a 5DM3 and a 70D in a matter of a year. For the last two years I've been heavily reading and following video/film-making topics, gear reviews, YouTube & Vimeo channels, learning technical aspects in terms of digital film-making and everything in between.

Just to give you a perspective, I am into guitars for the last 20 years, but since the bug bit me last 2014, I sold two of my guitars to buy a decent camera. A couple of weeks ago, I bought an FS100 and I am just waiting for it to come. I know it is a 5 year old camera though, I am still blown out of the image you get from it. Maybe after sometime, I will be ready to consider 4K workflow. In fact, I want an Alexa, Amira or a FS7 in the future. Which means I have to upgrade all of my equipment and my editing machine to handle it. For now, 1080 is okay for web-based release.

DVXUSER helped me a lot when it comes to learning things in this new world I've got myself into. Seeing videographers/cinematographers who started shooting in film gave me a new outlook. I felt too short and should learn new things to be better in the days to come.

Kudos to all of you guys who put effort, time and share knowledge to all of us who are just newbies in the industry.

Thank you to all of you here.

Hi Lester
welcome to DVXUSER.

I imagine there are quite a few people on this forum in a similar situation to you (I certainly am). And it can be an amazing place to learn.

I'm thinking of heading to the UAE shortly; would love to chat. Perhaps you could contact me via private message.

All the best.

Thank you for welcoming me. This site is full of knowledge and geniuses. Let me know when you're coming to UAE. Cheers!
