Moving from a mid-2011 iMac i7 to an HP Z240 for Adobe CC

As I have been getting more and more 4K footage I am considering moving on from my iMac i7 to the new HP Z240 with an NVIDIA Quadro K2200 to take advantage of the CUDA capabilities in Adobe Premiere CC (which is not compatiible with the card in my iMac right now). 4k performance for me on the iMac is sluggish but passable, the Z240 configuration I'm looking at is going to run me about $1750, With this being my first PC in ages I'm just wondering if the juice is worth the squeeze to pull the trigger on this purchase or if there is a better option out there for my $2,000-2,500 budget.

You might want to skip the Quadro K2200 in favour of a GeForce GTX series card. For video editing the differences are very slim, and certainly not enough in justify the price in most situations.

One of the biggest benefits of a PC vs an iMac is the ability to design a system from scratch and either build it yourself or have a local shop take care of it for you. That's not to say HP workstations are not good - but personally I would only consider ordering from them if I needed an enterprise solution such as a network of identically performing workstations. For smaller businesses with a single primary workstation, you're much better off building it yourself (or getting an expert to do it for you) - and this is coming from someone who is not particularly IT savvy! However I did just get a new workstation built by a local PC shop and they put together a much better system at a much better price than I could've got had I gone to a major supplier like Dell, HP, or Apple.
