moving CS5.5 from one pc to another?

Anyone have suggestions for moving a Premiere pro project from one PC to a different PC, They both have cs5.5. Should I try to load the project onto an external harddrive, then just plug hard drive in to the pc I want to use it on? Helpful suggestions appreciated.

That would be the simplest way. Just keep your whole folder structure intact. When you open it up on the new computer it'll ask you for the first clip of the offline media. Once you point it to that clip, it should find all the other clips. You'll need to re-render anything that needs rendering.

Thanks Keylight. My only issue is I'm using about four usb harddrives that have random clips from each, that makes up the project. If I go into project settings, Is that where I will find the option to move project to another hdd. And will it take all the clips from all the hdd,s and move them to the new Hdd by it's self? Hope thats not to confusing, tought to explain what I'm thinking.

Go to Project > Project Manager.

There you can select your sequence and a choice of creating a new trimmed project (in which case you'll need to define handles - how many frames pre and post sequence clips you want to include) or collecting files and copying them to a new location, in which case you can include or exclude unused clips.

The benefit of doing it this way, you get everything you need onto one drive.
The negative of doing it this way, you now have a second copy of your media (which is wasteful of space). Of course, you can always delete your "first" copy after you've done this. Of course if you use those clips in other projects, you won't want to delete them.

I found the easiest way to deal with such situations is to mount every single USB/Internal/RAID drive using the same drive letter across all desktop/laptop computers.

Example:

Say you have raw clips on 5 USB drives: then always mount them as drive V, W, X, Y, Z.
Say you edit your projects on your RAID0 drive: then always mount it as say drive M.
Also, optionally, always install Adobe stuff into the same location: say on drive D,
and configure its temp/cache folders using the same locations.

Now you always get raw clips from drive V to Z.
And you always edit projects on drive M.
So you can easily and freely move your projects between different computers.

To copy/move a project from computer A to B, just copy/move its project folder from the M drive on computer A to the same location on B. Once all USB drives are detached from A and attached to B, Premiere Pro will automatically find everything on V to Z drives. If you store the rendering files in the same project folder (unlikely a best idea), you'll copy/move them along the project this way too.

Awesome, Thanks guys. About ready to go give it a try. Appreciate the responses. I will check back if I have any issues.

It's usually a best practice to keep all of your media for a project on the same drive. Transfer copies over before you import into the project.

I have learned this as well, keep it all in one folder, then in theory you can copy the folder to another drive, and 2 people can work on the same project.
