17 grand? 17 grand. They're serious. If they really thought they could spend all this time developing a product like this and sell it to actual users for that price.. i'm afraid they'll be outta biznaaasssss pretty quickly. Sure it's great. Spend all your R&D time on developing a cheaper, realistic solution.
They mustve missed a few pages in their business plan. (competitive outlook, target market, etc)
Clearly their target market is not end users. Perhaps their target market is to move 20 or 30 units to rental houses around the world, and at those prices maybe they're happy...
I mean, think about it this way: what if Sony announced a 24p/25p/30p/50i/60i high-definition camera with 2/3" CCD's, interchangeable lenses, etc... and they had the nerve to charge $100,000 for it? We'd all freak, sure... but that hasn't stopped them from selling a few hundred CineAlta's worldwide.
ahh. Where are the hero's for the indie's these days? If we could all just organize ourselves and form an indie filmmakers consortium, and create affordable gear and share the cost, then we would be the masters of the universe!! Indie's Unite! :

Because professional cams don't really need it... with a 2/3" CCD and a nice long lens you can get some nice shallow DOF looks with most any professional cam. However, sometimes even on the big cameras we've used the Pro35 (which is, by the way, $27,000! By that standard the MovieTube might look like a bargain!)
I can't explain what they're trying to do. I don't understand their marketing at all, I don't know where they expect there to be a market.
Obviously there's a lot of pent-up desire for a prosumer-priced mini35. Whether there's an actual market remains to be seen. The only thing we know for sure right now is that the MovieTube is not designed to go after that market.

Which is where they missed the mark. If they were wise they would've seized the opportunity placed in their lap by huge demand and no competition for a cheap(er) solution to the mini35.

Ya. Even something around 2 grand or so. Has to be a happy medium between the high priced mini35 and the blank CD DIY.
