hey guys,

what are your some films that have great commentaries relating to the process that it took to make the film??

thanks

looking for kitty by ed burns has a great commentary regarding making the movie with a dvx100 in nyc

Just off the top of my head, I recommend Micheal Mann's, Ridley Scott's, and James Cameron's commentaries. They don't screw around talking about stuff that doesn't pertain to the film or to filmmaking.

The funniest commentary I tried to watch was for The Cell. The director talked so fast at first I could barely understand what he was babbling about. Maybe he had too much espresso before he recorded it?

to live and die in LA, HUH? I will definitely check that out... Ihavent seen it for many years. I wonder if Mann does a good commentary on Public Enemies. I wish that Tarantino and Spielberg would do commentaries.

The DVD of "To Live and Die in LA" has a very nice, "Making of" featurette also.

Also the Robert Rodriquez 10 minute film schools on his DVDs are very cool also.

Although not the question, I think the worst I've heard was the latest Zorro film. It was full of long pauses and "Oh yeah... I remember that. Do you remember that? Yeah, I remember that, too."

The Incredibles (most of the Pixar films have good ones), Amelie, Ronin (Frankenheimer; a great one). That's off the top of my head.

Brothers McMullen has the single best commentary for an indie filmmaker I have ever heard. Burns talks about what worked, what didn't, what's important, what isn't, his choices and how it all came together.

Kevin Smith's commentary on Road House has very little to do with the movie, but is pretty entertaining. Ron Howard's commentary on Apollo 13 is also funny. He does a mean Schwarzenegger imitation.

I've always loved PT Anderson's commentary on Boogie Nights. I wish he'd do one for There Will Be Blood, but I understand why a lot of directors don't want to do them. Wes Anderson does good commentary tracks as well, particularly for The Royal Tenenbaums. I also like Richard Linklater's commentary for Slacker. Scorsese on Raging Bull is very informative (as are all of Scorsese's commentaries) and of course, Robert Rodriguez talking about El Mariachi always makes me want to make a movie.
