Movies with Animated Sequences in them.

So I just finished my film but low and behold we lost some information while backing it up and turns out I either can go reshoot 2 scenes or animate them. I've seen a couple decent to good movies use this technique and I was toying around with the idea of adding a couple animated sequences in my film.

Could anyone add advice on cost/companies/people who would do this.

I'd also like to get a list of movies that do this so I can talk to my producers about it.

So Far I've got

1. Kill Bill Vol 1
2. Deguello

But I know there's more.

What do you guys think and would this even be feasible on a low buget?

Unless the animation serves the story I think you're better off going back and reshooting the missing scenes. I would be afraid that the animation would look like it was coming out of nowhere if it isn't integrated into the story.

That and quality animation will likely cost you more than re-shoots.

Natural Born Killers has some animation in it, although not entire sequences if I recall correctly.

Yeah I could reshoot for maybe $600. I think any decent animation would be well over the 1k mark.

Ahhhh, I just feel like a slug having to go tell my actors that we lost footage and I'd rather tell them the truth so they know whats up.

IF we go reshoot I'll show them a few scenes from the film so they know it'll be worth it to spend another day working. Still I'd like to look into the animation. I think I could weave in into the film pretty successfully. Maybe a quick shot in the intro, the two scenes and a quick shot during the climax of the movie.

I had some animation done by a college student once for dirt cheap. Might be worth contacting a college with a solid animation/design program to see if you could talk them into getting class credit for helping you out. Not to mention getting some good pieces for their reels.
Cheers,
Adam

Don't tell them that. Make some meaningless dialogue changes and tell them you want to do reshoots with the new dialogue.

Anyway, I think that CG animated HORTON movie had a short anime-style sequence in it. Even though it's an animated movie, that short sequence stood out in exactly "that way".
