Movies with a twist...

Rich Lee

I shoot Pirates.
Whats your favorite movies that had a twist or shocker at the end?

hard to choose..but right now im going with fincher movies....fight club, se7en, the game...

Shawshank Redemption had a great one too!

Good choices especially on Se7en and Shawshank.

A few that come to mind are The Usual Suspects, Sixth Sense, The Conversation and
Rear Window.

I didn't like The Crying Game; that was just plain ****ing gross.

- Sixth Sense

- <prepares to be laughed at but whatever-in-advance:laugh: > Empire Strikes Back: "Luke....................I am your father"
Back in the day, THAT shocked me.

(I have a friend named Luke that I've personally almost driven insane, I've said "Luke I am your father" to him so many times that now whenever he shows up instead of "Hey wassup Luke" I just say "Luke come give your daddy a hug")

- The Green Mile: I still can't believe they actually killed John Coffey (sorry if I've spoiled that for anyone). I kept expecting/hoping something would turn and then I was like Super Bowl pissed where you bash the TV set to pieces while screaming "I can't believe this SH*T".

Damn, ESB is a great twist; how can we forget? And Han being Frozen I went into meltdown. "Noooooooooooooooooooooooo!" :(

12 Monkeys. Planet of the Apes (original Charlton Heston version). Soylent Green (the first time you see it without the ending being spoiled).

Good choices and great films.

SAW was a great concept and the TWIST was cool for me; "oohh... this is one of his victims doing this..."

My prblem was how the film was laid out; too many flashbacks; I'm not particulary fond of flashback sequences. I was more into the 2 dudes inthe washroom scene and then kept being taken out of the movie when they showed the flashbacks.

Great concept; bad execution I think.

RE: Saw

RE: Saw

For me, a flashback is a great tool and can be used to keep us in the narrative if it's used properly. It can also be an interesting tool to make an otherwise mundane story more interesting (ie. Memento). I think Saw used it improperly but I don't blame flashbacks as a whole for it. I blame the execution of flashbacks in that story. (among other things)

I thought the twist of the killer being in the room with them the whole time was cool. But I didn't think it rose to the level of twist value the sixth sense had. What ruined it for me was when Carey Elwes got upset enough to hack off his own leg to save his wife and daughter. I didn't think there was enough cause for him to go through with it and it was unbelievable for me. I think he would have stopped the second that blade hit bone. Now if the room was filling with water and he had moments before he drowned or if the room caught fire and he was going to be burned alive, I could see him hacking off his leg out of survival instincts and working through that pain. But without that primal fear pushing him, I think a real person would have stopped. Or maybe that's just me talking because I don't think I could get through that without that primal fear. Anyway, that's what ruined it for me. Slick looking visuals (although unattractive compositions) but not enough substance for me.

Hey, I should be working...!

Those are great points ST32; I should have thought more about it; Shawshank is a great example fo flashbacks as is Memento and others. I guess SAW just did not use it correctly for me.

Most of my fav's have already been mentioned, but
these 2 have great twists:

Amores perros - tons of great twists
Donie Darko - how about that ending ...awesome

ohhh where to start...

The best have been mentioned already:
Empire Strikes Back, Usual suspects, Twelve monkeys, Fight club... gotta be more, can't think right now

Some recent stuff:
Secret window, Identity. A bit overused/predictable, but still the twists worked.
Oh and Matchstick Men, of course
