Need some input.

//Bates Motel looks pretty good as a series. Not a movie though. But looks pretty good.

//And I heard Vikings was pretty good. Haven't gotten into it yet though.

So, maybe I should change the thread to T.V shows? :) Or whatever.
What's a good show to look for then?

That's all. Just looking for a movie to watch.

Ahhhh. Have not heard of it yet on my TV broadcasting.

Going back: The Bates Motel looks like a pretty good series imo. Seen one episode so far and it looks good.

I'll keep an eye out for Luthor. Just not sure if I can get it on T.V yet.

Thank you.

An eclectic mix of films I enjoyed recently (something on here has to give you an idea):

Weird: Holy Motors (2012) french - subtitles are the least of your worries with this one, has a story...sort of...if you squint really hard...
Drama: Win Win (2011) - Paul Giamatti, a faultless little drama that sneaks up on you
Scifi: Six String Samurai (1998) - indie action scifi, a little gem of a film
Crime/Thriller: Harry Brown (2009) - not Caine's best but perfectly servicable, felt it needed something more but satisfying nevertheless
Drama/Thriller: The Devil's Double (2011) - enjoyed this much much more than expected, dramatised bio of Uday Hussein's body double
Romance/Thriller: The Russia House (1990) - between this and ladyhawke i was smitten by Michelle Pfeiffer as a lad, and was all over again after watching
Action: Bunraku (2010) - highly stylised, a worthy failure: needed to watch three times to see past the distracting but beautiful production design
Comedy: Seven Psychopaths (2012) - watching tonight: trailer impressed enough to buy sight unseen, looks hilarious. Should be safe bet with ensemble cast

TV: I've just finished watching Game of Thrones season 2....sumptious but still waiting for something to happen. It keeps looking like something is about to happen, every now and then something seems like it is happening. But always in the end notsomuch. Some good characters (should be called the Dinklage Show) and production design to rival many movies but I'm starting to think this show is never going to cross the startline. Currently watching series 4 True Blood (each season sillier and less engaging than the last, but still love the music), Total Recall 2070 and Automan; with Fringe 4 and Treme 2 coming up next.

Thanks Egg Born. French movies I'm used to. That's a handfull for now. Thank you. Wow. Very Much.

I might go for Harry Brown first.

/and The Devil's Double (2011).

I did a write-up on a big list of sites dedicated to help you discover new content based on taste, create and maintain personal or community watchlists, check what is available for streaming currently, help filter Netflix based on criteria not available on the site, etc.. Perhaps one of these will help you out:

As for a personal recommendation, have you watched House of Cards yet? Good blend of a TV show and a movie. :)

Nice choices, they shouldn't disappoint. Devil's Double is unexpectedly entertaining. Just about to put Seven Psychopaths on. I'll let you know if it lives up to the hype.

If you have not watched House of Cards yet (the American version), I would highly recommend it. Whole season is on Netflix.

Thanks, that is very helpful. I second "Winter Bone" from your blog. It is a very good movie.

Well, Seven Psychopaths was merely okay. Another film about writing the film, a lame device which rarely fails to be annoying, even (or especially) to writers. Some of the vignettes are pure gold (most in the trailer and not as good in the film), others not so good. I would have rather have seen the film the trailer promised. Or the ones some of the other characters propose. Good performances, good dialogue, good look, bad story.

Haven't seen (or even heard of) the american House of Cards but the bbc version from the 90s was some of the best tv of that decade.

As I'm impressed with a lot of your posts... I didn't want to poop on your recommendation Egg... but yeah, I was tempted earlier to say that I found 7 psychos to be uber-boring... I love Walken... and even that wasn't enough to win me over. I agree about the trailer... too bad that wasn't accurate.

I haven`t seen House of Cards yet.
I`ll be watching The Devils Double tonight (and Harry Brown). I might try for Luther too.
Have them all on my To Watch list anyways.
Thanks again. Looking forward to watching some of these.

edit: Watch Harry Brown now. How the opening sequence is so close to the events of the last day! How true.

//Got done Harry Brown. Now THAT's a movie. Looking forward to the rest.

Yeah, the pacing of the few good scenes was a lot snappier in the trailer and that's how this kind of movie should be paced. It should have been a caper film, not a navel-gazing, half-arsed examination of the writing process. I'm sure he's making some kind of commentary on hollywood but it's not engaging enough to be bothered to delve deeper into. I bought it so I'll probably have to watch it again to justify the purchase but I'm not in a hurry to do so.

If the opening sequence reflects your day...wow. Are you the hoodlum or the victim? :) Every impressionist can do Michael Caine but there's only one Michael Caine.

How about a couple of suggestions from you Gord? What have you seen lately to recommend that I might have missed (classic or contemporary). Great idea for a thread. I like the idea of having someone else program my next few movies, you can get a bit sick of your own taste from time to time.

Not my day. I was referring to the events the past day with the woman and the baby and the kids with a gun. I don't want to refer to it more than that. :)
//good movie. I recommend it.
