Movie poster

It's a poster for kill bill 2, which is a list of names with some of them crossed off. Granted, there is a sword sticking through it.

I can't see that pic J.R.

And cause William has something to do with the film. There is only 4 characters. John (who helps his friend kill the people by filming it), Lee (johns girlfriend), Gerry (the phsyco) and William, (the guy who Gerry thinks is guilty for the story)

Okay, so the 25 people on the list will be explained somehow in the film, right?

It will all tie in at some point with the bad guy trying to kill William and explain everything?

(reminds me of Steve Buscemi's list in....The Wedding Singer? Billy Madison?)

Ya.

So this guy Gerry, was not liked in his grade 12 year in high school. No one liked him. Everyone in his science class signed a petition, to get him expelled. They told that he was threatening them and what not.

They all signed, and all of the students got him expelled. except for two. John and William.

Years pass and Gerry gets mad and wants revenge. He gathers up all of the students, and tortues them. Then kills them afterward. He hires John to film it, and make them watch themself getting tortured. He pays john, and john needs the money for he is in a money dilemna with his girlfriend.

William is next, because Gerry has a suspicious feeling he was in on it. Was he? Or wasn't he?

Can john save will, and prove that he was clear to Gerr?

That's it. Cheesy? I don't know, I will def. get this looked over

Cool idea. Immediately know what it's about. PK and Jim's suggestions are good too.

Wieden & Kennedy once did an ad for Nike that was just a bunch of scribble on poster board (hand done, not in Photoshop) that was a list of marathons to enter or something like that. Effective in the right presentation.

Just my 2 cents...

It sounds like a disaster if not handled properly. How do you avoid that?

Give the killer some intelligence, some craftiness and don't shoot for the sake of shooting. Ask yourself is there a way to make us care about the killer? Some background? Focus on the reason and not the method. Anything but senseless killing. If you have a 'strong' story driving the killings then you've done something that would stand up better in my opinion.

It could go either way depending how you write/direct it.

Mmmmmm, the idea's not original though is it? Again it's in how you tell it that will make it yours.

There's no reason it couldn't be less than 25, is there?
I would definitely make it less - both for the sake of the film and the poster.

TheComo - The blur doesn't work right. The names are blurry but the dashes next to the names (and paper) are in focus. It looks odd.

I don't think you need to "show" all the names. Maybe zoom into the top of the list so that only the top few names are shown (5-6 maximum), with one or two of the important names unscratched. That will give the illusion that the list is longer.

The poster is good. Not sure if you were looking for any suggestions? My only suggestions would be:

I feel like the paper is really clean cut, like on the edges. I think it would add to it if the paper looked a little rougher - crinkled, a few rips, maybe a small stain or two (blood stain)?

Also, the last name on the list is so far to the end, it's almost off the poster. What if there were 5 less names so that the name of interest didn't feel crammed onto the end of the poster?

Lastly, the "To-Do List" and "out 2008" text doesn't stand out quite enough; I know it's suppossed to be written in pen, but it seemed a little flat. If you thickened that text I think it would add a lot, either by outling it more with then or by having it written in marker or something to just get it to 'pop' a little more.

But yeah I hadn't ever seen the Kill Bill poster, but whatever, its similiar but who cares most people won't know, plus what hasn't been done in some capacity before? I like the poster, design and idea. Slick and cool, good color correction, not too revealing yet I know what the film is about by just looking at it. Good stuff.

Thanks Raptor.

Thanks for the tip, I'll do so immediately.

Ah, I WAS going to burn it and stuff, and give it some nice burn effects. But ripping and blood stans would be key.

Thanks to all. New poster up soon.

ok guys, updated it. Is it to busy? Should i take off the one blood staind, plus the teared piece off the end?

Thanks

Your edge needs to be on it's own layer, and over the background. Try using wet brushes on the edge. Also try using lighting effects. This is more fancy than what you want, but it's an example of that.

I agree with you on the blood. A little smearing goes a long way. Just a hint of it is all you need. Keep sticking with the "less is more" minimalist thinking.
