So the past few days I was a thorn in the side of the company that makes Movie Magic, challenging their existing licensing EULA because of my recent forays into putting virtualized Windows on my Linux operating system, such that their software saw that as another "machine" (3 "machine" installs per license). I get an email from the president of the company (Stephen Greenfield) who wants to call me, and he does, and we had a good conversation (shared some tales from our geek crypts). Apparently I am the only one ever to bring up this issue to them (running Movie Magic in a virtualized MS Windows on Linux, confusing their licensing system), which surprised me, and interested them from a POV of their software being able to be used on Linux.
To get to the point, he let it be known that some major improvements are coming soon in a version upgrade, and more important to me and others wearing bifocals or worse-- I pleaded with him to please please please add in some way to increase the font size in the scene index card feature like Final Draft 8 allows; with his bluetooth ear piece confusing me as to who he was talking to, he asks his engineer if the software in Windows (pres is a Mac guy, runs VMware Fusion for Windows on his Mac, but normally uses MM in Mac) allows increasing font size in the scene index cards to which the engineer replies no, then I hear "oh, that's not good." So I am desperately hoping for that fix in maybe version 7 because for me those scene index cards are all but useless with the tiny font they currently use.
Anyhows, just thought this news would be of interest to current users of Movie Magic. As I have been contemplating a switch to FD especially because of the font size issue with the scene index cards. But hopefully MM will remedy this soon.
ps: for any fellow geeks interested-- see attached screenshots; one shows MM running in a windowed virtualized Windows XP operating system on my Linux system (and a Mac OS X also running virtualized in a window, hehe); the other shows what appears to be Windows XP and is, sort of, but is really WinXP running in full screen mode but on my Linux system, with Sibelius music composition software running (but a simple Ctrl+f keypress drops the full screen WinXP back to a windowed version like in the other screenshot). This all also gives me a great excuse to boost my quadcore system to an octacore in 2010, hehe.
