I noticed something odd yesterday, wondering if anybody here might check and confirm this to see if my suspicion is true or just a fluke. Movie Magic Screenwriter (MMS) 6 software was running very very very slow on my laptop at the coffee shop yesterday morning. MS-Vista, Toshiba laptop (dual core 4GB RAM). So I did the Ctrl+Alt+Del key combo to look at the %cpu usage for apps and MMS was using a whopping 50% of the cpu power. Interestingly, the wifi internet was down at the cafe.
Today, 24 hrs later, same laptop, same cafe, everything the same, except their wifi is up and running, and lo and behold MMS isn't even using 1% cpu power. Same software, same laptop, same document (just a 10 page short script). I am wondering if MMS goes nuts trying to 'phone home' to check for licensing and such and overloads the cpu when it can not find an internet connection; that would be odd, but I can not think of any other explanation. And if that is the case that is just unacceptable on the part of the software, as a user we should not have to have an internet connection just to use MMS without having it crawl because it is disturbed at not being able to phone home to check for anti-piracy and such. I think I will try this on my other PC at home, yank the cord on my router, see how MMS reacts on that PC when it can not phone home.
