Hey guys ( and gals) I just finished my first draft on a redemption comedy and now I want to go back and look at all the movies like my story for the rewrite. So PLEASE help me with the list.

The basic dynamic is this:
A salesman with court trouble gets his actor brother to unknowingly help him dodge conviction.

Any thoughts?

Thanks a ton!

IMDB keyword search. Learn it. Love it.

You can filter keywords by genre, and find lots of other films similar in theme, setting, etc. Great tool. Unfortunately IMDB made it a bit harder to use over the past year, but it still works great.

Here, I've already set you up. Check out the "Refine by Keyword" box on the lower right to filter selections and get closer to your type of film.

thanks a lot for the help guys. I had completely forgotten about my cousin vinny thats a great call. and I'm fascinated to see how Caligula (a movie I've been dying to find a legitimate a reason to watch) ties into the theme. I secretly hope I'm getting rick-rolled on that one and that it's a running gag of the forum to add Caligula to everyone' s must-see list. however I will take the advice on faith watch Gore Vidal's finest effort.

pmark23 thanks for the IMDB info, I'm definitely adding that to my toolbox. here are some of the returns:

Princess Bride
Toy Story
Groundhog Day
As good as it gets
Scrooged

The point there with Caligula is if you can get your horse elected to the Senate... you don't need to worry about screen writing... but do watch out for disgruntled underlings...

Alternatively, if you have a 'dubious' relationship with your sister... why on earth are you writing about a salesman with court problems when you could be writing a block buster from personal experience...

Alternatively, if you get said sister to let you into the 'women's rites' inner sanctum... well, again why worry about writing at all...

Alternatively, if you can turn a profit on the Senator's wives, doing what they do naturally anyway... again why script write...

Alternatively, if you dance around in little boots for the entertainment of Mister Big, well... perhaps anything you write will be produced... as long as Mister Big is still in love with your little boots...
