MoVI the new Steadicam and more?

My thoughts are that it's really cool and really expensive. I'll bet it gets a lot of use in various productions. You need a focus puller for sure though.
My other thought is that those on a budget can achieve similar effects with a simple gorilla pod or similar and a high end Sony/Canon/Panasonic small super OIS camcorder that's always in focus and much much smoother than DSLRs to begin with.

Oooh, I know about these, 3-axis gyro stabilizers have been around for a long time but were big, heavy, loud and very expensive, and so more often than not used for aerial videography from helis and planes. Interesting if this tech is at the point where you can just hold one in your hand... and afford it too.

Gyros are usually rated for a maximum weight capacity, anyone know what this is rated for?

Well no, you could absolutely not - but it's not a Steadicam killer either. Steadicam does 2 things that this does not 1 - supports the camera weight for you and 2 - smooths out up/down moves, not just pan/tilt/horizon - so this thing is missing one axis of smoothing - the vertical one. In a long slow walk (and many other situations) the Movi might prove impractical. It also might prove more difficult to get the same organic feel, and quick whip pans and so on - that Steadicam gives you when used by a great op.

This is a new thing, allowing new and other possibilities - why must everything new kill something else?

As far as expensive - well it's pretty cheap for what it does.
