MOV will not play

Recieved some MOV files from a customer that was recoreded on the HVX. When I try to play the files I get

Codec not found. You may be using a compression type without the corresponding Hardware Card

I know nothing about the mac or FCP, but the files show up only white,

Here's what I tried;
Loading in QT Player
Loading in final cut
Loading in Premier
Loading in after effects

and all we get is a white screen. Am I missing something?
 
1) ask the customer what process they used to capture/ingest from the HVX

2) Look in Movie Properties / Movie Info for info on the compression type.

As you may know, the HVX does not record in quicktime format; somewhere in the process someone did some conversion. Make sure you have the latest version of Quicktime; I'm not sure if Quicktime plays back DVCPRO HD if FCP is not installed...? Anyone know if it does?
 
Talked with the shooter, said he captured using log and transfer. Also drove and picked up the P2 files, how can I import those into FCP?
 
To import the original P2 footage, go FILE>LOG and TRANSFER. Then navigate to the CONTENTS folder and select it. The clips will all appear.

What version of FCP are you using?
