.mov only loads if i run then close then run Vegas. WTF?!

I am not able to load .mov video into Vegas Pro 8.1 (get error popup from Vegas that i can not load the .mov file) unless I then close Vegas, then run Vegas a second time even just a few seconds later-- then everything works great. Keep in mind my PC has been up and running for at least 10 minutes when this happens, so any codec libs should be loaded, right? (I have Shark codecs installed). PC, Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit, 8GB RAM, hexacore CPU.

Why is this happening, anything I can do to solve this riddle? A pain, I could live with it, but it is really odd. Anybody else have this problem?

I've had similar problems.
Upgrade to 9e. It still may happen, but seems to happen a lot less.

That is too expensive a fix for me. I mean, 8.1 works but it just stinks always loading, closing, the running Vegas a second time to have it load mov files. Really odd. I do play to buy Vegas 10 Pro whenever that comes out.

I would never trust the quality of free codec packs, nor their compatibility with various software. Particularly if they're 32-bit codecs on a 64-bit OS. Being hit-and-miss is probably par for the course.

I would argue codec packs in general are bad. Why install a bunch of crap when you only need 1 or 2 things? Install only what you need, that way it's easier to debug and eliminate issues when they arise

MOV wrapped files are loaded in vegas through quicktime , so if that codec pack installs quicktime alternative , you could unregister that (I would use a registry cleaner afterwards like ccleaner) , and install official quicktime .

To my knowlege QT is still 32-bit only , and Apple hasn't released a 64-bit version for windows

You should, yes. But it still won't necessarily help with this if it's the codec that's wonky. Quicktime isn't a codec; it's a format.
