MOV editing in Vegas!

I have a friend that wants me to edit some of his footage in Vegas. It was shot on an HVX but all I can see in the time line is the audio track. Not the video. Is there a codec somewhere out there that I need to get for this?
Any help would be appreciated.

It says in the properties, of course, quicktime player. Shot at 24fps. I think he shot it at 720p and then rendered it to the Mov. That's all I know right now.
I remember someone saying something about an update in quicktime but I'm not sure which since I already have quicktime 7. Not pro though.

you know david, i could use a clarification on exactly what a "wrapper" Vs "Codec" means as well.

Not a perfect analogy, but . . .

Think of the wrapper as a cartridge on an old-school video game.

Think of the codec as the operating system of the console.

Even if you put, say, Sega software on an NES cartridge, you can't play the game, even though you plug the cartidge in. The NES doesn't know how to read the Sega software.

Same kind of thing for wrapper/codec. You can wrap a video file into an AVI, but if you don't have the codec, you don't know how to "run" the software.

No, the wrapper is the .mov.

The H.264 is the codec, and I'm not sure you can edit with it. But you wouldn't want to anyway -- it's extremely compressed and inter-frame. It's a delivery codec, not an editing one.

Can he export with any other codec?

I'm sorry. You're right. That's the codec.

Yes, he'll deliver differently. I was just wondering for future projects if I had to deal with that codec again how I would. I know it's not the best for editing. Thanks!
