Mouth light... any ideas?

So here's a couple quick problems that have stumped me.

1) I need to have a "flash" go off inside an actor's mouth for a suicide/gun in mouth death. I considered doing it in post and saving myself the trouble, but nothing beats good old fashioned REAL light. So is there any kind of mini, mouth-safe light that could produce a "muzzle flash" inside someone's mouth? Or feel free to tell me to shaddap and worry about that 1-2 frames in post ;P Hehe.

2) A similar "flash" going off inside a toaster. The gag is essentially a toaster "shorting out" during a lightning storm. I'm thinking a few quick, bright blue flashes from inside the toaster slots. Any ideas how to pull that one off?

Thanks for any and all help and suggestions. I'll be putting it all to immediate and good use =)

Both of these sound like a job for some kind of flashing LED with a battery setup of some kind but how you do that in the mouth safely is a tough one. Plus you have to have some kind of trigger and no wires showing coming out of his mouth.

I would definitely consider the post method.

You could use a small LED flashlight -- shine it into the mouth for a few frames just to get an image of a mouth illuminated from the inside.

Composite that with the rest of the scene with After Effects. It's just a few frames so getting it close enough, and carefully concealing anything outside the illuminated area, will probably do the trick.

If the gun is in their mouth a flashlight/wiring could be hidden behind the barrel.

For the toaster, get an old toaster that won't be missed and toss a lit sparkler inside. :)

You could cut the sparkler so the iginition is only a quarter inch long and use magician's flash paper as well.
Nice idea Professor. I guess that's why they call you ....the professor..

For the toaster I like flash cotton with magnesium dust and a dash of lycopodium (optional). You can use a model airplane glow plug for ignition.

Flash cotton is faster than flash paper. Hard to get in California. It's shipped wet so allow a day to dry out a piece. Keep your fingers away from your eyes, as there is some residual hydrochloric acid on there from the process of making it.

Not responsible for how you use this knowledge,,,,,,

I didn't even know you could buy flash cotton without a license!

May I suggest looking for the fire extinguisher before igniting the toaster? ;)
