mounting external mic

Hi all,

Recently bought a DVX100 (the OG-original) but the guy didn't give me the attachment piece to mount an external mic. Where should i look to get one?

And on a side note: how good is the on-camera mic w/ the DVX100?

Thanks ya'll, you're the best...

Standard mic sucks, i would contact panasonic.com and go to parts, or you can contact any pany dealer, or try B and H photo or Samy's camera

are you looking for the round mic holder that opens up to hold the mic on the rite side of cam? i dont use mine i could send it to you. the reason i dont use mine is cuz i bought me this http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=653&A=details&Q=&sku=131401&is=REG&addedTroughType=categoryNavigation im sure you can get any where they sell phography stuff but what i did was cut it off at the "L" and drilled two holes and put it where the orginal mic holder went now i have a straight bar with 2 hotshoes and it also puts the mic higher so when you use a wide angle lens it wont be in your shot.

if you're going to get an external mic you should really get a shockmount for it, the mic holder that comes with the dvx is no good, get one with a shoe mount adaptor & you can use on camera or boomed

no i dont have a pic but i do need to take pics of my rig im very proud of my setup but if i had pics how do i get them on here?

Bilgami - thanks for the tip, gonna look into your crafty modification. in meantime, if you're not using the round mic holder that came with your DVX, i'll Definitely take you up on the offer.

ade4all - that sounds good. but could you give me specifics as to what you recommend? i'm new to this stuff..but fascinated learning it.

thanks guys !

choosing a shockmount depends on your budget & which mic you'll be using, though i have a sabra som (its universal as in it will fit most mics as you can alter the length & the bands will shape to fit any diameter) - it seems to work pretty well with my rode ntg2 shotgun & oktava hypercardioid (a particularly sensitive mic) & is decently priced - £30, & can be got with a shoemount adaptor. It will significantly reduce handling noise you would get if you mounted a mic directly in the dvx mic holder. check out the audio section here & do a search, there's some fantastic & very specific advice to be had here from people much more experienced than i

Bilgami - sent you a pm w/ my address info, hope it worked, it's my first attempt at pm'ing in this user group.

thanks a lot for your help!!

Im currently using a modified Rode SM5 shockmount with a NTG-1 and love it. The SM5 gets clampd to the DVX's mic holder. I replaced the rubber dampeners around the mounting screws on the mic holder with spacers so its more ridged and doesnt flop around. The shock mount worked well out of the box but I could see the windscreen when using my fisheye. So I mounted the upper part higher up off the base. Now I can shoot full fish with my mic and windscreen on camera.
