Mounting AT897 to cam

Just wondering how users of the AT897 are mounting the mic to there cam - Are you able to use the DVX mic shoe that is installed or is it better to use another mount on the light shoe. I'll be using the light shoe for a video light for most of my shoots so I'm hoping that the DVX's mic mount shoe will be good enough.

thanks
Mike

Re: Mounting AT897 to cam

It won't. If plan on using your hot shoe for something, then I'd get a hot shoe splitter. Usually I tell people to mount that mic on the hot shoe itself using some sort of universal shock mount (PSC, Audio Technica, KTek). You can get some of these mounts that already have a hot shoe adapter. Others you will have to buy an extra hot shoe adapter. That little round donut looking mic holder on the camera is worthless, and should be thrown away.

I disagree with Dave. My AT897 mounts perfectly in the stock shotgun mount. Get an 18 inch XLR cable on you're good to go.

It may mount OK, but if you're handheld, it doesn't provide good isolation, and you'll get lot's of handling noise. I know because I've had to try and clean it up in post.
