Mounting an HVX-200 from a Mac.

Is it possible to mount an HVX-200 this without having a P2 card in the camera? (I'm very new to macs, but I was thinking you can't mount a *device*, but only the *storage*, ie the P2 card).

I searched for "mac mount hvx-200" and couldn't find anything.

- I tried it today with no luck (still waiting for free P2 card and dvrack for my PC isn't here yet either).

- It's a Mac Book that I borrowed from a friend, and even when I went into the disk utility program, I couldn't see the camera....I was expecting the Mac to "identify" the camera as soon as I plugged it in.

go up to the apple in the top left and click "about this mac" then a window will pop up and you can just click more info. that should pull up system profiler and you can see all devices that your computer sees connected. it should show it up but i dont know if you can actually mount it because i don't have that camera but thats a start. good luck

There's no point in mounting the camera if you have nothing to offload. I did just try to mount it without a p2 in the slot and it doesn't work. When there is a card in the cam, you connect via firewire, and then you press the button in the back for 3 seconds. A drive will appear on your screen, and then you can proceed to import into fcp using import p2 command.

OK, thanks guys. Since I don't have the P2 card yet, I was just anxious to plug it in and see if I could see anything...

I had thought that even without a P2 card, the Mac (or a PC) would recognize the camera as a firewire device even if there was no drive to actually mount.

If you want to see yourt stuff just digitise it in the traditional way. even if you don't have software your mac should have i-movie. Plug the cam by firewire, and capture in real time. So in a sense the answer is yes, your mac will definately recognise the signal coming in.

You can attach the HVX to the Mac via firewire in two different ways -- as an AV/C unit (meaning, just like a DV camera, allowing live streaming or capture) or as a "1394 Device", which means it'd act as a P2 card reader.

You don't need a card to plug in as an AV/C unit; just put the HVX in "camera" mode or "MCR" mode or "VCR" mode and plug in the firewire.

If you want to use it in "1394 device" mode, as a card reader, then you'll have to have a card IINM.
