Mounting a Broadcast ENG camera on Kessler CineSlider

I got a three foot CineSlider yesterday and will use it with a Panasonic HPX370 full size P2 camera that uses standard ENG sony type quick release plate. Not sure how to mount it on the base. Holes don't line up for it. I would prefer not to mount another head on the slider since we have the Hercules head and can easily pan or tilt to set the shot. Anyone using a similar setup?

You might want to call Kessler to verify this. I believe the their slider carriages are drilled and tapped for the Giottos mount they sell. Buy the base and mount together and I think you are golden. Though in my experience, you will be better off with a head.

Going to try a bogen manfrotto version that I have today. I ordered the Giottos MH621 but wont get it until next week and have a shoot tonight. I was trying to avoid putting a head on it. The high hat is pretty tall. I could try to get a used Bogen 501 but not sure if the HPX370 would be to heavy for that head.

I think I checked this and the Giotto and Manfrotto have different hole patterns, but that is nothing a drill and tap wouldn't fix.

I mount a HPX170 on a Manfrotto 701 and it is marginally acceptable but gets it done on a pocket dolly. I support both ends of the pocket dolly rather than a single point mount. The 701 is actually a fluid head (light duty for sure). I believe the 501 has a dry clutch. There is a 3/8" tapped hole in the slider carriage center, so if you have some all-thread you could make a temporary stud for that type of head (701, 501, 503). Kessler makes a nice little knurled adapter for this if you want it neat. For sure a high hat and bowl mount head would be tall, though a cine-slider is significantly more HD and should be fine.

Your right. I used one of the two knobs that came with the Hercules head and screwed it in from under the Slider mount. Now the Bogan quick release works. Not perfect but will get me going for tonight. I watched the video on Kessler site and it shows the Red One and a DVC Pro ENG camera attached direct to the slider with what looks like a Giotto on a Sony type camera plate. That is how I got it now and seems to work. I like the idea of using the Hercules head to tilt and set the shot better than using another fluid head on the slider.

Just a last comment:
I have preferred to use a head since being able to pan a little while sliding is a good thing and it can make your setup go much faster. Have fun.

My shoot last night worked well however I did miss not being able to pan or tilt while sliding. Should have experimented with that with the Hercules head. Looks like the high hat or another head will be needed.
