Mounting a 7D to a Z7

Aware it's quite a weird request but for uni submission, I have to shoot a project on the Z7. Having a 7D myself, I obviously want to shoot on that, so I'm going to shoot Z7 for uni submission and then the 7D for festival and showreel.

That said, I'm wondering if there are any sorts of ingenious mounts. Initially I'd just planned to shoot them side by side but ideally I'd have both cameras at the same point. Plus, crane and dolly shots won't be possible without shooting a retake which will get annoying.

The obvious easy solution is just gaffer taping the cameras together but this will probably restrict the controls on the Z7 and will leave my camera covered in gaffer tape residue so I was wondering if there's anything as cheap but more ingenious...maybe some way to mount the camera on the Z7 hotshoe???

Thanks.

You can, but it won't be cheap and you'll only be able to use the lightest lens, nothing too long or heavy. I would look at it like mounting a monitor. The 7D is about 2lbs body only, add another pound or two with a lense and you're up to about ~3-4 lbs. I would get a Zacuto Zamerican arm and a Zircomount to connect the camera to a rod system on the Z7, using something like the Z-mount or one of the many different 15mm mounting options that Zacuto has. It should be a pretty solid and adjustable system, but it's going to run you north of $500 assuming you already have rod support.

I honestly thing it's a bad idea to mount one camera on top of another, especially with gaff tape. Not only does it make the setup unncessarily cumbersome and out of balance, now you have to pay attention to two cameras instead of just one, increasing the chance of something going wrong. Not to mention the framing of one camera will be off, rendering it unusable. With the added financial expenses and setup time, I really don't see how this could be worth it.
