Motorized pan heads?

I'm almost finnished constructing a jib arm and would like some advice on a  economical motorized pan head I could use. I saw the bescor unit but it only has a vertical tilt of 15 degrees. Are there any others out there that don't cost a zillion dollars?

                  thanks

Re: Motorized pan heads?

This is a home built pan/tilt system. might not be what you are looking for but it is probably a lot cheaper than any where else.  I have read a lot of reviews about cody deegans, and he seems to come up with good ideas.  Just thought i would let you know. ;D

The plans are a pdf.file but they are free. how to get to the plans just go here http://homebuiltstabilizers.com/ Click the link that says tips on the left hand side. click the top link that says Camera support system projects you can build . After that it should be the second link down that says, Cody Deegan's Jib plans.

If you do decide to build this before i do let me know how it turns out. ;D

I'm curious. Your jib should allow you much more tilt than that, so maybe this 15 degree tilt will not be a problem. What you're not getting out of your jib is a true pan (i.e. without the arc effect). So maybe that Bescor would work okay.

Anyone used the Bescor? If it works okay, this seems like it would be a great tool to use on a jib arm (and very inexpensive).

Re: Motorized pan heads?

I use the Glidecam CamCrane system and the Bescor pan/tilt head. The head piece is ok, but it's a bit slow, which limits the type of movements you can do. Other than that it's great, and you can pop in 4 AA batteries to make the whole unit mobile.
