Motorcycle Journey

Hello,

I'm planning on doing a low budget documentary in May. It will be a motorcycle trip through Mexico. Two of us will be riding motorcycles and two people will be driving a Jeep. The guys in the Jeep, one will be taking care of the sound (in camera) and the other one will be shooting with a DVX100A or B.

I don't know what the final output will be but my intention is to take it to film in the future. So I guess we would be shooting in 24p with the DVX.

What would be a good small camera to take to mount on the bikes?

I would love to get the Canon HV20 because of all the great things I heard, but I don't know if this would be the right camera to be mounted on the bikes and to work in conjunction with the DVX?
Could the Canon HV20 footage be blown up to film quality?
Am I better of just getting a 3CCD cam. for the bikes?

THANKS,
Pepe

you have a few choices. but as people have found out, a DV cam isint the best one for motorsports. due to constant vibrations ( espically of the engine turning at 7k) i did some research for my own when i was wanting to get a cam for my bike. ill see if i can find the one that looked best, but basicily it was a small bullet cam that attached itself to a box that was a Solid STate recorder, and recorded in MPEG2 formats. the rez was decent. I think its the same cams that they use in Nascar for the on board mounts. it was a little pricy about 1-2k for the cam and recorder unit i think.. ill try to find the site again ill have to look in my bookmarks at home.

i would stick to small bullet cams for several reasons... you can place them in various locations easiely on the bike. (or the riders helmet for that matter) without the need for akward gas tank suction cup mounts that can interfear with safe operation.

I tried the suction cup ( sticky pods i think the name was ) and the camera DVX 100 wobbled all over .

I remember seeing a mount for the DVX and bigger cameras about 2 years ago But nothing now.
