Motion upgrade to FCS

So right now you can upgrade from Motion 2 to the complete universal Final Cut Studio for only $199. Motion 2 costs $299 by itself. Although it is supposedly no longer available as a stand-alone program, I've noticed there are still copies at my local store and Best Buy.

It seems I can simply buy Motion 2 and receive Final Cut Studio (when the universal version ships later this month) all for only $500 (versus $1300). Has anyone done this? Am I missing something?

It is all true...Here is what I did:

I already owned Final Cut Express HD ($300) so I also had Soundtrack with it. I then heard about this and upgraded for $100 to Soundtrack Pro. On Feb 1st Apple put of PDF. order sheets on the website, which I filled out, and sent my Soundtrack Pro disc to them. They received it a few days later, and you can log in on the "Check My Order" tab located in the Final Cut Studio Upgrade Information Window. I called a week ago, and they said it will deffiantly ship no later than the end of the month. What I don't know is if it will be just the discs, or all the booklets as well in that awesome huge box. The lady said they weren't sure yet.

I assume it will work fine with Motion, no reason it wont. This was a very smart move by Apple.

I'm wondering how long the update deal from the single apps lasts ... I own Soundtrack Pro and thought I might skip the UB upgrade and go straight to FCP 6. Not sure if that'll work though

It's odd that Apple isn't sure whether the "upgrades" will ship with the booklets-- it would be a royal pain if they just sent pdf files instead (but worth it to save $700). I guess the question then is whether the upgrade only gets you FCS 5 through the end of the year, or whether it would get you FCS 6, assuming it is released after NAB. Either way, I think I'd better go grab a copy of Motion before they're off the shelves.

The sales rep wasn't sure what they were doing yet. She said she could put me on the phone with someone else, but I just didn't have the time.

I would love to get the booklets, but quite frankly, the price is just too good. If it doesn't come with them, it won't be the end of the world.

This cheep upgrade is only for FCS 5. They are doing this so that everyone has the Studio since they got rid of the individual apps. The price would be too cheep for FCS 6, but it will likely cost around $500 to upgrade to that, once it comes out. It could be more or less depending on what Apple unvails at Naab, especially with this Final Cut Extreme looming around the bend.

Neither my local store nor my Best Buy have any copies of Motion 2,
does anyone have any ideas where I can find a copy in order to take advantage of this
round about way to find a deal?

I bought my copy from an Aple store once I heard the announcement hoping it was true. It payed off. No one seems to have it anymore.

I got my motion at apple store in Soho, nyc... maybe call around to different apple stores and see if they still got it, you can also upgrade from dvd studio pro... macmall.com had some left a few weeks ago too. good luck!
