Motion tutorials

Are there are any good books or DVDs you would recommend for learning Motion? I have never even opened the program - I have been using FCP for a about 8 years, and now getting deep into Soundtrack Pro and Color. Would like to add Motion to my arsenal (I know my way around After Effects a little bit, so I get the concepts, sort of). CallBox and Creative Cow don't seem to have anything - what else could I try?

Not to sound facetious, but the manual ain't bad. There are also some video tutorials on the disk set that cam with app, I believe.

It's been a tricky program for me to get my head around. Things like keyframing are a bit different than the way they are in FCP. For the past year or so I have been using their stock templates and Live Fonts and doing basic motion graphics. But I am only now getting a handle on what it can really do.

Yeah, I am an avid manual reader, but seeing an expert actually do it really helps me immensely. I just could not figure out Color until I saw that CallBox DVD, and now I am feeling very comfortable using it. And I used to color correct for broadcast using hardware, so conceptually it made sense - really learning to use Color was all about workflow and how to handle the interface. And Stuart (the expert) was really great at explaining that, especially with Noah playing the role of the newbie and asking the same questions that I had.

(You're welcome, Noah :))

Yeah, that's a great DVD. Check your discs to see if there is one with a Motion tutorial video. I'm pretty sure that's where I got mine. I can't recommend any others though, since I haven't seen any.

If you can afford the $25, get a subscription to lynda.com. There's hours and hours of video tutorials on just about any program out there, Motion, AE, FCP, etc. I just cannot recommend it enough.

Oh man, I feel stupid. I HAVE a subscription to Lynda.com through work. Obviously, I haven't logged in for a while. Now I'm off to learn, if you'll excuse me...
