i have a simple question about motion tracking: once you analyze the footage how do you apply the key frames to another component so that it follows the motion that you tracked? Does this work if i want to apply the traked key frames to a still picture? if so, how?

thanks

In your motion tracker dialog box, after you have tracked one layer you can apply the effect to any other layer. You could even copy the keyframes after you have applied them to a layer.

Yes, you can do it with a still picture. Remember to enable motion blur on the still picture layer in the amount of the original footage shutter speed, and add some noise to the picture layer as well since the video will have noise and you want the two to blend.

thanks, but i have a problem. it won't let me select the still image layer. any suggestions. In the AE help it said to pre compose it but it didn't work when i tried it that way.

thanks again

Hmmm. Thats strange. I never have a problem with it. What you could try is to apply the data to any layer you CAN choose, and then copy the keyframes, delete them from the layer you applied them to, and then paste them in the still image layer. A bit of a work around, but it should do the trick.
