Motion tracking n00b question

That's a tough one. I think you'll have to track for individual hits until the portion of ground you are tracking is out of the picture, then track for the future hits.

I'm interested to see what responces you get tooO!

Okay it's a little overwhelming to explain but think about it...

0. create a new null object
1. Motion track your footage to one point like the stake in the middle (don't stabilize)
2. Target the null object from the motion tracking control panel and apply the track. Assuming you get it good.
3. Parent the richochet's to the null and repostion the richochet's as needed. (to parent drap the pick whip from one layer and drag it to another)

This way the Null is stabilized to the live action footage and the richochets will pan with the shot.

Good Luck,

Use the motion tracker, pick out an object in your frame that stays in frame for the duration of your effect. In the above clip I might select the pole in the middle of the dirt lot. Place your track marker over the object you select, analyze, then apply that motion data to your effect. For a shot like this with a lot of effects, I would apply my tracking data to a Null object, then parent all my ricochets to that. As the camera moves, you may have to find different objects to track. Unless it's a wide shot like the clip above.

The clip above actually doesn't do a very good job as you can see the effects moving with the camera. Hope this helps

Edit- Damn you Kramer and your fast detailed responses! And yes, I think that hug lasted a little too long.
