Motion Tab and Filters

I have a few clips that I wanted to slightly adjust the rotation and scale on. Using the motion tab, this was an easy change.

However, one of the filters I am using is a Widescreen Matte. The motion changes are being applied to the Matte as well as the image (tilting and zooming in on it).

Is there an easy way to not have the motion tab effect the Matte or is there a better way to do the Matte?

Thanks,

Chris

Make a black solid layer. Place it above your footage layers. Add an inverted rectangular mask to the black solid layer to fake the widescreen.

Another way–

Finish your edited sequence, and then nest it and add the WS matte to the nested sequence. Depending on your edit, one way may work easier than another.

I always add the widescreen matte to a nested sequence after the edit is locked. Its a great way to get a consistent matte across the whole project.

It's best to add the mask to another layer on top. That way, you can adjust the positioning of the video behind the mask from clip to clip. Applying the mask to a nested sequence will only allow you to adjust the positioning of the entire sequence.

This is what I want to do, because I need to be able to adjust the matte for the clip beneath it.

However, How do I apply the matte to a layer above it? For example, if I put a slug above it and apply the matter to that, the slug blocks out the image below. Is there a way to apply the matte to a transparent image?

I must be missing something obvious.
