Motion Control Dolly for Indie Filmmakers

Re: Motion Control Dolly for Indie Filmmakers

hi there Vitaly,
a motion control dolly sounds nice but for my money a motion control tripod head with pan and tilt would be much more usefull.

ideally it should have a record mode where you can control the head manually whilst the movements are being recorded, so that you can then playback the movements repeatedly.

I agree with you on the tilt and pan functionalities... but those are a bit more complicated to do and for the price I'm setting at right at this point... it will not fit the budget... although those are my plans for future versions if this motion control dolly is successful.

And I still think some really cool shots can be had with this motion control dolly without the pan and tilt motion control. Would you agree?

Re: Motion Control Dolly for Indie Filmmakers

I agree. What price point are you looking at for this setup?

Re: Motion Control Dolly for Indie Filmmakers

no more than $500 since then it becomes too much for indie guys... but i am actually hoping to keep it closer to $300. In the next few weeks I will give more info since a prototype is being built right now.

Is less than $500 bucks reasonable for indie filmmakers for such a device? And how much more appealing would it be at around $300?

Thanks

Re: Motion Control Dolly for Indie Filmmakers

man if you keep it under 500 and it works well motion control could help all of us out at least for stuff that needs effects work so hell yeh I mean you can sign my company up to purchase one. Is 500 for the built one or is that just diy and buy the parts and guide from you?

Re: Motion Control Dolly for Indie Filmmakers

no this is for a pre-built dolly with motion control...
Thanks for the interest in this device.

Re: Motion Control Dolly for Indie Filmmakers

i think it sounds and looks great.

i just haven’t factored it into my creative process.

have you got more links to whet our appetites?

Re: Motion Control Dolly for Indie Filmmakers

That would kick ass if you can do it for $300-$500. I'd be interested.

Re: Motion Control Dolly for Indie Filmmakers

A motion control arm makes most sense. It can sit on a dolly, alone, etc... and give repeatable crane movements.

A dolly is interesting but there are issues of pulling focus, do you walk next to the dolly & pull focus, forget the focus, etc, do you sit on it as is normally done, if so what is it powered by? how loud is it? battery recharge time, etc... is it tracked or free wheeling.

Sounds interesting

You are right a motion control arm is very very interesting to have, but it would not cost within the range of $300-$500... so that eliminates it for right now. For the dolly you would have to pull focus if you wanted to, but I think in most cases you wouldn't even want to do those motion control shots where you pull focus (...I might be wrong???). But in either case it still leaves you alot of room to do many many different shots that do not need to pull focus or require a crane

And no you will not sit on this dolly, it is light weight and only for the camera and rides along a track to give you a motion controlled dolly shot that you as a human operator could not do to such percision over and over again. I have a more thourough description on my website www.bokserfilms.com in the forum... here is the exact link
http://www.bokserfilms.com/forum/viewtopic.php?forum=10&showtopic=12

remeber this is supposed to be on the cheap... some of the features you want are way cool and I want them too... but then the cost would raise dramatically and the people I'm making this for (myself and other indie filmmakers) would not be able to afford it anymore.

but thanks for the input since I see the bigger range of devices that filmmakers would like to have at their disposal.
